Is 2017 is the Year Instagram Stories Dominates Snapchat?

The debate about Instagram eliminating Snapchat has been discussed in the travel blogger world ever since Stories launched. A main difference between Instagram and Snapchat stories has been the lack of fun filters, geo-filters, and stickers on the Instagram Stories platform. That has now changed! At the end of 2016, Instagram launched stickers.  Instagram stickers look almost identical to Snapchat’s stickers. You can find customizable stickers for time, weather, location which are all very similar to Snapchat. Will Instagram stories dominate Snapchat?

Now that stickers are available on Instagram, and the platforms are becoming more and more similar, will there be a fall off in use of the Snapchat platform with travel bloggers? The function and delivery of content is very similar on both platforms. So, what would encourage a travel writer or travel blogger to stick with Snapchat? The number one reason I can think of is audience. There still tends to be a younger audience on Snapchat. So, if you are a travel writer or travel blogger with a young audience, Snapchat is probably the right place for you to share this type of content. On the other hand, if you have a more mature audience, Instagram Stories is your best bet.

Instagram Stickers

Stickers offer a set of tools to help you add context and creativity to your story. After you’ve taken a photo or video, you’ll see a new stickers button next to the text and drawing tools. Tap the smiley face to find customizable stickers for weather, the current time and even your location.

Adding a location sticker works the same as adding location to the posts you share to feed — simply choose or search for your location. It’s easy to modify stickers: move them around, make them bigger or smaller and choose from different styles to match your mood. You can add as many stickers as you want to any part of your story.

People watching your story will be able to tap the sticker to learn more about the location, but your story won’t show up on the location page itself.

Travel writers and travel bloggers should spend time building an Instagram Stories strategy now, because it’s only going to grow even faster in 2017.

Quick IOS Update: On iOS, you can now save your entire story from the past 24 hours to your camera roll as a single video.

OMG being both on Instagram and Snapchat is time consuming (even though you can add quickly a snapchat story to instagram, but still you have to do some manipulation).
I’m not on Snapchat and didn’t start using instastories until recently, and ok, it’s funny so I might use it more regularly. But as I also want to enjoy my travels, I’m not going to use both 😀 I don’t have time, and moreover, I have zero audience on snapchat so I’d have to build it from scratch!
